If you have ever walked down South Main Street in downtown Greenville and wondered where the locals go for a truly great night out, the answer is often the same. Coral Greenville. It sits right in the heart of the city, and it has earned a reputation for doing two things really well: serving fresh, high-quality seafood and making every guest feel welcome.
This is the kind of restaurant that people talk about long after the meal is over.
A Restaurant Born from Passion
Coral was started by three friends who share a deep love for food, hospitality, and the people who walk through the door. Jennifer White, Dakota Schilling, and Chris Schilling each brought their own backgrounds to the table.
Jennifer spent over 25 years in the food and beverage world, including 12 years in Charleston, SC, before making her way to Greenville. Dakota, originally from Sydney, Australia, discovered her love of hospitality while bartending in Paris during a backpacking trip after high school. She later spent years mastering the bar at high-end restaurants in South Carolina. Chris, originally from New York, was even drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers out of high school before his true passion, the restaurant world, eventually won out.
Together, these three built something special. And their energy shows every single night.
Where to Find It
Coral is located at 654 S Main St, Greenville, SC 29601, right in the West End area of downtown. It is walkable from many of Greenville's most popular spots, including Falls Park, the Swamp Rabbit Trail access points, and several hotels. Street parking and nearby garages make it easy to get to. Complimentary valet parking is also available.
The Atmosphere Inside
Walk through the door, and you will feel it right away. The space is warm, stylish, and alive. Painted brick walls are lined with booths, and the lighting is kept low and intimate. The restaurant is split into two main sections: a lively bar area and a more relaxed dining room. If you are coming for a date night or a special celebration, the dining room offers a quieter, more intimate feel. If you want to be right in the middle of the energy, the bar is the place to be.
The kitchen team is led by Executive Chef Josh Dill, a Greer, SC native, along with Sous Chefs Cody Tardiff and Addison Stone, both from Upstate South Carolina. Pastry Chef Katie Shegda, a Le Cordon Bleu graduate, handles all of the desserts in-house. This is a team that takes its craft seriously.
The Menu: Fresh, Creative, and Full of Flavor
The menu at Coral is built around fresh seafood delivered daily. The flavors are bold, the ingredients are quality, and the presentation is something you would expect from a fine dining experience without the stiff formality.
Starters Worth Sharing
The appetizer list alone could make a full meal. A few standouts that guests keep coming back for:
- The Bangin' Shrimp is tempura fried and tossed in a signature spicy sauce, then topped with scallions. Guests consistently call it one of the best things on the menu.
- The Ceviche features halibut, shrimp, avocado, mango, and blue corn chips. It is fresh, light, and packed with flavor.
- Oysters on the Half Shell are served with lemon, mignonette, cocktail sauce, and prepared horseradish. Market price, and always fresh.
- The NC Jumbo Lump Crab Cake is a standout, served with shaved fennel, arugula, pistachio dust, and a lemon beurre blanc. Market price.
- For something different, the Tuna Carpaccio comes with daikon radish, cilantro, ponzu, jalapeno, and a wasabi aioli. Delicate and bold at the same time.
Seafood Mains
This is where Coral truly shines.
- The Chilean Sea Bass ($54) is one of the most talked-about entrees on the menu. It is soy glazed and served over sautéed baby bok choy and red peppers, basmati rice, and a miso butter sauce, finished with fried sweet potato ribbons.
- The Sea Scallops ($44) are seared and served over parmesan risotto with blistered tomatoes and a lemon beurre blanc. The scallops over risotto combo has been a guest favorite since the restaurant opened.
- The Halibut ($43) is blackened and paired with a peach chutney, broccoli salad with shaved almond, and golden raisins.
- The Swordfish ($38) is grilled and served with braised marble potatoes, broccolini, and a lemon dill aioli with ocean butter.
- The Salmon ($36) is blackened and plated with asparagus, pickled shallots, peas, bacon lardons, and a poblano and cauliflower cream.
Something for Everyone
Not a seafood fan? There are options for you, too. The Braised Short Rib ($41) comes with garlic confit, whipped potatoes and a pomegranate demi. The Filet ($57) is served with herb compound butter and asparagus. The Coral Curry ($22) is a vegetarian-friendly Caribbean-style dish that guests often say surprised them with how good it is. You can add shrimp, scallops, salmon, or chicken to it as well.
At the Bar
The bar menu is a more casual option and a great choice if you are stopping in for a lighter bite. The Lobster Roll ($28) is tossed in capers, celery, and lemon aioli. The Fish N' Chips ($21) is buttermilk-fried cod with duck fat fries. The Duck Fat Fries alone ($6) with garlic confit aioli are worth ordering.
Desserts Made In-House
The pastry program at Coral is taken seriously. Every dessert is made in-house.

- The Lavender Infused Bee's Knees ($14) combines lavender-infused gin with honey and lemon. It is one of the most popular Happy Hour picks.
- The Maple Old Fashioned ($16) is made with bourbon, maple simple syrup, and black walnut bitters.
- The Black and Blue Mule ($14) puts a fun twist on the classic, using tequila with a blackberry-blueberry and lime puree, topped with ginger beer.
- If you prefer something without alcohol, the mocktail menu is thoughtful and well-crafted, with options like the Boozeless Black and Blue Mule and the Grapefruit Smash.
Happy Hour runs daily from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the bar area, with deals on select cocktails, house wine, and draft beer.
Private Dining at The Bailey Room
Coral also offers private dining for special events in The Bailey Room. The space holds up to 20 guests and is equipped with a 65-inch Samsung smart TV with HDMI capability. It is great for birthday parties, work gatherings, pharmaceutical events, and other celebrations. A sample private menu is available, and the team can customize options for your group.
What Makes Coral Stand Out
A lot of restaurants in Greenville will give you good food. Coral gives you the full package. The owners are present on the floor every night. Guests consistently mention being greeted or checked on personally by Jennifer, Dakota, or Chris. That kind of ownership involvement is rare, and people feel it.
The kitchen team sources fresh seafood daily. The pastry chef is a Le Cordon Bleu graduate, making everything from scratch. The cocktails are crafted, not poured from a bottle. All of it adds up to an experience that feels personal and polished at the same time.
