If you are exploring Greenville, South Carolina, great food is part of the experience. One local spot that truly reflects the heart of the city is Brick Street Cafe. Located in the West End of downtown, this cozy cafe is known for scratch-made cakes, classic Southern dishes, and a warm neighborhood feel.

Brick Street Cafe is not flashy or trendy. It is comforting, welcoming, and deeply rooted in the community. That is why locals love it, visitors seek it out, and anyone spending time in Greenville should add it to their must-visit list.

A Story Built on Family and Creativity

Brick Street Cafe opened in 1994. It was founded by Sara Wilson, a talented baker and creative spirit. Before owning a restaurant, Sara made custom cakes from home and created folk art like hand-painted birdhouses and wooden crafts.

Her son James shares the story of how the cafe began. One day, Sara came home with a key and told the family they now owned a restaurant. Life changed quickly after that.

In the early days, the cafe was small and simple. The West End was quiet back then, not yet the busy area it is today. Muffins were baked in small batches, and the menu was limited. Over time, Brick Street Cafe grew along with Greenville.

A key part of the cafe’s success is Miss Sue. She was the first employee and has been part of the cafe since day one. She is known for her cooking skills and helped create what many call the best chicken salad around.
