Greenville, South Carolina, is growing fast. New parks, trails, and city projects are changing how people live, work, and spend time in the area.

Some people think places like Unity Park are already finished. But the truth is, Greenville is still investing in many projects that will shape the future of the city.

Let's look at the biggest Greenville, SC projects that everyone should know. These updates focus on parks, trails, and new developments that will make Greenville even better in the years ahead.

    Unity Park Is Still Growing

Unity Park is one of the most popular places in Greenville.

It sits just outside downtown along the Reedy River. Years ago, this area was mostly industrial space. Today, it has become one of the city's favorite gathering places.

    People visit Unity Park to:

    • Walk or bike the Swamp Rabbit Trail
    • Let kids play in the park
    • Meet friends for lunch
    • Relax outside near the river

Because the park has become so popular, the city is continuing to add new features and improvements.

    Watch the Full Video Here:

The New Viewing Tower at Unity Park

One of the newest additions to Unity Park is a viewing tower.

This tower gives visitors a high view over the park and downtown Greenville. From the top, people can see the Reedy River and the surrounding city.

The tower was designed to create a landmark for the park and to remember the history of the area. It also gives people a great place to take photos and enjoy the beauty of the Upstate.

Projects like this may seem small, but they help make parks more exciting and welcoming for everyone who lives in Greenville.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail Is Expanding

The Swamp Rabbit Trail is already one of the most loved parts of Greenville.

The trail was built along an old railroad track. Today, it connects many communities and gives people a place to walk, run, and bike.

New extensions are now being planned and built. When finished, the trail could connect most of Greenville County.

    Some updates include:

    • Trail improvements in the downtown and West End areas
    • Better connections to nearby neighborhoods
    • Plans for a North Main extension
    • A new pedestrian bridge over Verdae Boulevard

The pedestrian bridge will help people cross safely in a busy area. It will also make it easier to reach the beautiful natural areas nearby.

Some people even believe the trail could become a new way for people to travel to work using e-bikes and bikes.

Big Changes Coming to the City of Greer

Another major project happening near Greenville is called the Four Greer Initiative.

This plan includes four major developments that will happen over four years. The goal is to improve the city of Greer and prepare for future growth.

Greer has become a very popular suburb for people moving to the Greenville area. Because of this, the city wants to build better infrastructure and services.

Let’s look at the four projects.

     1. A New Sports and Entertainment Complex

One of the biggest projects is a large sports complex.

This new facility will include more than 200,000 square feet of space.

Inside the complex there will be:

    • 9 basketball courts
    • 18 volleyball courts
    • Sports simulators
    • Event space for tournaments

The goal is to attract regional and national sports events.

City leaders expect the complex could bring around $20 million per year to the local sports and travel industry. The project is expected to open in early 2027.

     2. Public Safety Training Center

The second project in Greer is a new training center for police and fire departments.

    This facility will include:

    • A 50 yard indoor firing range
    • A fire training tower
    • Classrooms and seminar space

This will allow local police officers and firefighters to train close to home. It helps improve safety and preparation for emergencies in the city.

     3. New Downtown Parking Garage

Downtown Greer continues to grow with new businesses and visitors.

To prepare for the future, the city is building a five story parking garage on Depot Street.

The garage will include more than 500 parking spaces.

This will help solve parking challenges and allow even more people to visit and enjoy downtown Greer.

     4. A New Fire Station Near Lake Cunningham

The final project is a new fire station near Lake Cunningham.

This station will act as a suburban response center. It will help emergency teams reach homes faster when help is needed.

For people living in this part of Greer, this will bring faster response times and better protection.

Why These Projects Matter for Greenville

All of these developments share the same goal.

    They help improve:

    • Quality of life
    • Safety
    • Infrastructure
    • Outdoor spaces

Greenville continues to invest in parks, trails, and growing suburbs. Projects like Unity Park improvements, Swamp Rabbit Trail expansions, and the Four Greer Initiative show how the area is preparing for the future.

For people thinking about moving here, these improvements make the Greenville area even more attractive.
