If you search online about living in Greenville, SC, you will see a lot of great reviews. And many of them are true. Greenville is a fast growing city that many people love.

    But no city is perfect.

In this blog, we break down the 10 worst things about living in Greenville, South Carolina, based only on the video above. These are real concerns shared by people who live here and people who move here.

    1. Many Homes Are in HOA Communities

About 80 percent of homes for sale in Greenville are in an HOA.

For some buyers, this is not a big deal. HOA fees here are often reasonable and help keep neighborhoods clean and nice.

But if you do not like rules about your yard, home style, or parking, this may not be for you. There are homes without HOAs, but they are fewer.

    2. You Will Not Find Many 1800s Historic Homes

If you love very old homes with deep history, Greenville has fewer options compared to cities like Boston or Charleston.

There are some historic areas, but they are limited. If you want a true 1800s home, you may need to pay more or look in less developed areas.

    3. Summers Are Hot and Humid

    This is a big one.

Summers in Greenville are hot and humid. If you are moving from the Northeast, Midwest, or West Coast, the humidity may surprise you.

Many people adjust after a year or two. But it is smart to visit during summer before making a move.

    4. There Are Bugs

Yes, there are mosquitoes, spiders, and other bugs.

Because of the warm weather and humidity, pest control is common. Most homeowners use pest treatment services.

The good news is there are no alligators in local lakes. But if you dislike insects, this is something to consider.

    5. Traffic Is Growing

Greenville has grown fast. More people means more cars.

If you are from New York or Atlanta, you may think traffic here is light. But if you are from a small town, it may feel busy.

The city is working on road plans and traffic updates, but growth brings change.

    6. The City Is Changing

Some people loved Greenville when it felt like a small southern town.

Now, there are new neighborhoods, restaurants, and venues. Farms are turning into communities. With growth comes more development.

The city has a 2040 plan to guide growth and protect green space. But if you want a very small town feel, Greenville may feel too big.

    7. It Is Not Very Walkable

    Greenville is mostly car dependent.

Downtown is very walkable and beautiful. But most people do not live downtown.

Many neighborhoods do not have sidewalks. Most errands require driving. If you are used to walking everywhere, this could be an adjustment.

    8. Limited Public Transportation

Greenville has a bus system, but it is limited.

There is no metro train system. There are talks about future connections to Atlanta or Charlotte, but nothing is approved.

If you rely on public transportation daily, Greenville may not meet your needs.

    9. Above Average Rainfall

Greenville gets more rain than some parts of the country.

Summer often brings afternoon thunderstorms. It may rain for an hour and then turn sunny again.

The bright side is there are not many gray sky days. But the rain is something to expect.

    10. No Major Pro Sports Teams

If you love big NFL, NBA, or MLB teams, Greenville does not have them.

Major touring acts visit sometimes, and venues are improving. There are minor league teams and strong college sports.

But for major events, many people drive two to three hours to Atlanta or Charlotte.
